Alex Orji, a sophomore quarterback at the University of Michigan, has always felt a deep connection with God that fueled both his football aspirations and his desire to make a positive impact beyond the field. As he readies himself to contribute to the Wolverines, Alex is not merely aiming for on field success, but seeks to inspire a new generation of players. Hailing from a Christian family, Alex grew up understanding the importance of faith, but it wasn’t until his middle and high school years that he saw it become more of a priority than ever before. Now a couple years into college, Alex says that having this foundation has allowed him to excel both on and off the field. “Faith has always been important but it’ll only be as important as you make it. Especially since middle and high school, I’ve found my conversations with God occurring more and more frequently,” Alex says. Alex’s journey to Michigan began at Sachse High School in Texas, where he helped lead the Mustangs to a 7-4 record and a playoff appearance. His impressive stats and leadership on the field caught the attention of college recruiters. Despite facing a season shortened by COVID during his junior year, Alex demonstrated his resilience and determination. Describing his decision to attend the University of Michigan, Alex said, “Michigan’s alumni network provides a base for people to find success at graduation regardless of what they do. The chance to be an Academic All American and a first-round draft pick screams ‘Michigan.’ I can see myself finding great success in any field as a Wolverine.” In his sophomore year, Alex showcased his talents on the football field, appearing in six games at quarterback for the Wolverines. Despite facing challenges, Alex leaned on his relationship with God, finding strength and resilience through his faith. “My relationship with God gives me a rock to always lean on through struggles and a reason and will to fight in tough times,” Alex shared. “My desire to make it in football is deeply rooted in the fact that I want to grow my platform to be able to spread the word of God and influence young athletes coming after me. I thank God for the blessings I’ve received from him daily, and I can only imagine where I’d be today without my abilities and talents with which he’s gifted me.” Alex Orji’s journey at Michigan isn’t just about football; it is about faith, family, and making a positive impact on the world. With God as his guide, Alex has continued to grow both on and off the field, hoping to leave a lasting legacy as a Wolverine and be a beacon of inspiration for young athletes to come.
I’m proud of Alex and the Michigan players. Their love of the game is complimented by their love of God and commitment to Jesus Christ. He is coming back soon and their testimony can reach many for the kingdom. May God guide and bless them all.
