After becoming a star at Mercer where he began his career, Ole Miss transfer Treyson Hughes is one of the most exciting players in college baseball. As he has quickly made an impact on the field for the Rebels, Treyson’s goals go far beyond the diamond. As he prepares for what the rest of his baseball career will bring, he looks to use his platform as an opportunity to glorify God. From his early days at Houston County High School to his current time at Ole Miss, Hughes has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication on the field. But beyond his on field talent, it’s his maturity and faith that set him apart. “Faith gives me strength and resilience,” Hughes says. “When I’m feeling down or discouraged, I can always turn to my faith for strength and guidance. I know that God is with me, even in tough times, and that gives me the courage to keep going.” Raised in a Christian household and finding a home in the local church community, Hughes’s faith journey began long before his days as a collegiate athlete. It’s a journey marked by moments of trial and triumph, where his faith served as a steady anchor amidst the uncertainty that life can bring. Reflecting on his high school years, Hughes recalls a particularly challenging period where his faith became a source of solace and support. “My faith helped me through some tough times in my life,” he shares. “When I was going through a difficult time in high school, I turned to my faith for strength and guidance. My faith helped me to get through that tough time, and it continues to help me through the challenges of college and life.” Hughes says that his faith is something that extends onto the field and into his baseball career. In a game of failure, Treyson says faith gives him an identity that doesn’t change regardless of his performance. “Faith helps me to stay focused and motivated,” he explains. “I know that God has a plan for my life, and that includes my baseball career. When I stay focused on my goals and trust in God, I’m able to stay motivated and disciplined.” As he navigates the competitive nature of collegiate baseball, he remains dedicated to his desire to honor God through his actions and accomplishments. “I want to use my platform and gifts to bring glory to God,” Hughes asserts. “I want to be a role model for others, and I want to show them that it’s possible to live a life that is both successful and Christ-centered. I want to be a witness for Christ, and I want to help others to find their own faith.” A two-year letterwinner for Mercer before transferring to Ole Miss, he boasts an impressive resume that includes accolades such as the 2023 All-Southern Conference First Team and the 2022 Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-American. However, it’s his character and integrity that truly define him as a player and a person. Whether on or off the field, Hughes exemplifies the values of teamwork, perseverance, and humility. “I believe that my faith is an important part of my baseball career,” Hughes affirms. “It helps me be the best player and person I can be. I’m grateful for my faith and know it will continue to guide me on my journey.” As Hughes continues to make his mark in the world of collegiate baseball, he remains committed to using his platform to inspire others and spread the message of hope. With every swing of the bat and every sprint to the outfield, he’s not just chasing victory on the field but looking to make a difference away from it as well.
I love this article! As an Ole Miss fan, I have enjoyed watching Trevor play and have appreciated the witness of crosses on his face. His play last week of throwing a man out at 3rd after catching a pop fly to far right field was amazing and the first I’ve ever seen in a long life of watching baseball. May God use Trevor to help his team and bring glory to Him during his time here. It’s ALL about Jesus!!!
Proud to be this boy’s Lae Lae! ♥️
So encouraging to read this. I’ve enjoyed following your success through your grandparents posts. Keep honoring God on and off the field!
