San Diego Padres pitcher Ryan Weathers looks to make an impact in whatever way he can throughout the 2023 season. Beginning the year as a part of the Padres rotation, Weathers looks to become a consistent piece of an incredibly talented San Diego team. As he has risen through the minors and is still just at the beginning of his Major League career, he has already had to deal with adversity throughout his journey in professional baseball. Regardless of the circumstances, Weathers carries with him joy and love, looking to be a light wherever he goes.
As he was developing on the field, Weathers was also growing off the field as well. Ryan says that his family instilled faith in him from a young age, and it has paid dividends for him throughout the journey.
“Faith has always been important in my life. No matter what, Jesus’s love has been constant through good times and bad times.”
Making his Major League debut in Game 1 of the 2020 NLDS, Weathers was on his road to stardom at a young age. After spending nearly the entire 2021 season with the Padres, Weathers found himself in Triple-A for the 2022 season, where he struggled to find his footing.
It was even through the difficult times on the field, however, that Weathers kept a smile on his face. Ryan says that even when things aren’t going his way, he is so grateful for the chance to make a career out of playing the game that he loves. He says that he has learned to treasure every moment because they are all blessings and just different parts of the journey.
Beginning the 2023 season in the Padres rotation, Weathers looks to prove himself and show what he is capable of. However, regardless of the results on the field, Weathers wants to be the best teammate and supporter that he can be. Every day, Weathers says that he wants to live with joy and love.
“The biggest impact I hope to make is doing what as Christians we are designed to do. We are designed to let the light of Jesus shine through us and bring people closer to Him. I want to use my platform to spread His word and let people know that He is the reason why I am where I am, not me.”
Grounded by his faith, Ryan has also been strengthened by his family around him. Tying the knot in 2022 with his wife, Thayer, Ryan says that having her and the rest of his family around to support him has meant the world. Now preparing for the rest of the 2023 season, Ryan looks to help the Padres to a World Series. However, even bigger than that, Ryan wants to use his platform to always be a light and make an impact wherever he can.
Interacting with Ryan on a personal level has been a great pleasure. I rejoice with him at his success and am honored to call him a brother in Christ
