Things were not easy growing up for Keshad, who was raised in an Oakland neighborhood filled with poverty and violence. Keshad’s family fell victim to that violence, too, when his brother nearly lost his life.

His brother, Kenny, also played basketball before a shooting left him paralyzed at just 14. Although he had little growing up, Keshad continued to push and eventually was given the chance to play basketball at the D1 level. Now in his senior year with San Diego State, he has them on the verge of being named National Champions. Keshad says that his past has made him into who he is today, and it is what inspires him to always keep pushing through. Playing for his brother and those who have never left his side, Keshad continues to put his impressive work ethic and dedication on display each day.

“I know that I have a lot of people counting on me. I want to inspire those people who are in the shoes that I was once in that they can make it. As long as they have the work ethic and have faith that God will take care of the rest.”

That faith has played a key role throughout Keshad’s life. No matter the circumstance, Keshad says he has relied on God and His timing. On the court, Keshad says that faith pushes him forward and allows him to become the best player and person that he can be.

“Faith has everything to do with my basketball career. The game of basketball has highs and lows. It can be challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally but by having faith in God I trust that no challenge is too great to overcome as long as I put God first and serve Him.”

Keshad has also become a star in the classroom, where he is nearly a 4.0 student at San Diego State. Dedicated to his classwork, Keshad says that getting his degree will mean the world to him and his family. What is most impressive about Keshad is his wisdom, heart, and maturity. Looking to make an impact and inspire those watching, Keshad will continue to make an impact no matter where he goes.
