The top recruit out of Texas in the class of 2023, Ja’Kobe Walter will be joining Baylor in 2023 as he looks to help Scott Drew and the Bears to another National Championship. A top player in his class for his impressive scoring and defensive potential, Ja’Kobe hopes to use his gifts to make an impact both on and off the court in Waco. As he prepares for his time at Baylor, Ja’Kobe says that faith has been key for him throughout his life and guides him every time that he takes the court.
“My parents put me in the church at a young age and have always told me to put God first in anything I do. Faith has always been important for me since the beginning.”
Ja’Kobe says that having faith as the foundation has allowed him to stay humble and use his gifts to serve others.
On the court, Ja’Kobe’s skills netted him offers from schools including UCLA, Kansas, Texas, and more. However, it was Scott Drew who pulled in Ja’Kobe’s commitment. As he prepares to join Baylor, Ja’Kobe says faith is something that guides him all the time while he plays the game.
“Faith plays a huge role in my career. Without God, I wouldn’t be in the position I am right now.”
“God has given me opportunities that I would’ve never thought I would have.”
The most important thing that Ja’Kobe has learned as he has grown up is that any dream is possible. His message to those watching him and looking up to what he is doing is to never give up on your dreams.
“I just want to inspire kids that have the same goals as me to keep chasing them because you never know when it’s your time to shine and that one moment can change your life.”
As Ja’Kobe prepares to compete on the national stage against the top talent in the country, he will always look to give back and remember what is most important throughout his career.
Helping Link Academy to an 20-0 record to start the year, the Lions have been guided by Ja’Kobe’s skills and leadership both on and off the court. As Ja’Kobe looks towards the next stages of his life, his maturity and giving heart are what stand out most. With a deep drive and sense of humility, he looks to make an impact wherever he goes and to always keep God first, no matter what.
