For Auburn gymnastics star Sophia Groth, making an impact has always been a goal. After a career prior to Auburn that included being a Six-time JO National Championship qualifier and a JO National Champion on the beam, she was led to Auburn where she has quickly made her name known. As she and the Tigers prepare for the upcoming postseason and the chance to compete for an NCAA title, she has been guided by faith throughout her journey.

Sophia says her relationship with her mother has been key throughout her life. Adopted when was young, her mother helped raise her with faith as a foundation.

Sophia says, “There is no other explanation to the miracle of adoption than the work of God. He aligned everything just as it is supposed to be and my life could be completely different or nonexistent if it weren’t for Him. Growing up I went to vacation Bible school, watched Veggie Tales, and my mom introduced me to the Lord.”

Sophia also says that her faith came to the forefront when she was told that the elite path may not be for her.

After hearing the news and growing frustrated as Sophia saw her dreams begin to fade away, she says God was still working.

“My teammate reached out to me and invite me to a youth night at the church. I was in 7th grade and that night gave my life to Jesus. From that night I chose to dedicate my life to the Lord rather than worldly success and possessions because I was introduced to a life filled with love and redemption.”

Sophia says that now, as she takes the floor, she looks to use her gifts to bring God glory.

“Gymnastics is a constant test of my faith because it brings joy and success but also struggles, injury, and losses. Since committing my life to the Lord I have found more joy and opportunity in the sport than ever before. I realize now that gymnastics is a platform God has given me to glorify Him!”

As Sophia has now joined one of the most elite gymnastic teams in the country, she says she hopes to use her gifts to play for something greater.

“I want to use the opportunities God has given me through this sport and beyond to encourage others to use their opportunities for good and the glory of God. I want to be a vessel for others to discover their faith and pursue the best relationship anyone could ask for – one with our Father!”

Sophia says that joining the Tigers has been an amazing experience and she’s so grateful to live and grow with those around her.

“My teammates, coaches, and staff are my support system, community, and rocks that have helped me make the transition from high school to college. I want to showcase our team’s full potential which I believe will result in a national championship.”

As the Tigers ready themselves for the upcoming regionals and the chance to begin working their way towards a championship, Sophia says she wouldn’t trade the experiences she has had at Auburn for anything. With a deeply rooted support system and faith that she holds close, Sophia will look to make an impact throughout her time at Auburn on everyone she interacts with.
