“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

-John 13:34

A proud native of Morgantown, West Virginia, and an infielder for several teams throughout his career, Jedd Gyorko has spent his time in the MLB becoming a trusted and feared name as he plays throughout the infield and infuses power into every lineup he has been a part of. Since making his debut in 2013, Gyorko has spent time with the Padres, Cardinals, Dodgers, and Brewers in the course of his career. Throughout all the ups and downs that have accompanied him along his journey, he credits his faith for keeping him focused and grounded.

Growing up in Morgantown, Gyorko says that for him faith was a consistent part of his childhood. “Faith has always been in my life. I have my parents to thank for that. We were a family that would go to church every Sunday and I give them the credit for that.” As he continued to grow in his faith with the help of his parents, he was also growing as an athlete. After being named one of the best athletes in the state of West Virginia during high school, he attended West Virginia University where he set numerous records for his local Morgantown team. He was soon taken in the 2nd round of the 2010 MLB draft, and debuted just a few years later.

Throughout the course of Jedd’s career in the MLB, he has experienced a number of peaks and valleys with the different teams he has been a part of. Gyorko says that it is his faith that keeps him grounded and thankful through some of his best and worst moments. “Faith has always helped keep me grounded throughout the ups and downs of a season. When I have bad times, I always remember what is most important and that is my faith and my family. I’ve also learned to give the Lord credit regardless whether I have a good or bad game! Nothing I do is my own doing, it’s from the gifts He has given me!” After signing with the Brewers for the 2020 season, Gyorko made his impact known after hitting 9 home runs in the abbreviated campaign and recently being voted by fans as the team MVP. Although he has experienced numerous successes on the field, he also cherishes his roles off the field including being a husband and a father for his family.

Jedd and his wife, Karley, are the proud parents of their 3 kids and are so grateful for the chance to raise their kids together. Jedd says that being a husband and a father is one of the greatest blessings and something he cherishes most. “The great thing about the Bible is it will tell you what God expects of us, especially as fathers and husbands. I’ve always been a person that treats others with respect. When I’m struggling being a father or husband, I can always go to the Bible and get advice and understanding.” Respect. That is the number one value that Jedd focuses on instilling in his children. It is also the reasoning behind his favorite verse, John 13:34, which says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Gyorko emphasizes care and respect for all and says this verse helps remind him of how to treat others. “I’m a firm believer in treating people the way I want to be treated and this explains that.”

While Jedd gets settled into the offseason and awaits the upcoming 2021 year, he is thankful for all the blessings he has in the midst of a trying time in the world. Although the future is uncertain, Jedd is thankful for the opportunity to take in each moment with his wife and kids and continue to shine a light onto others as he lives his life full of respect and love.
