Tatum Thomason, a junior for the University of Washington women’s soccer team, has made a significant impact on the field with her skills and leadership. In the 2023 season, Thomason appeared in all 19 matches, starting 18 and leading the Huskies with six goals. However, Thomason’s success on the field goes beyond her statistics.
At the heart of Tatum’s journey is her faith, which has been a constant driving force throughout her career. “Faith has always played a large role in my soccer career,” she shares. “The first time I ever stepped on the field was for a team at my church, where I played the first several years of my soccer career.” From those early experiences to now playing collegiate soccer at the highest level, Thomason’s faith has continued to be a source of strength and guidance.
Her belief in a greater purpose helps her navigate the highs and lows that come with sports. She reflects, “I feel so fortunate to know that I don’t always have to know what will happen next. I trust that God has a plan for me. It is already written, so I am kept grounded in remembering that no matter how I perform on the field that day, I know my worth is not dependent on soccer, but in Christ alone.”
Thomason’s faith, grounded in her upbringing, is a constant reminder that her identity is rooted in something far greater than her achievements.
“Growing up in a Christ-centered family is something I will forever be thankful for,” she says. “I quickly learned how important having God at the center of my ‘why’ is, especially in sports.” Her involvement in Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has also played a key role in her growth, helping her stay connected to like-minded student-athletes who share her beliefs.
“Having such an amazing FCA at our school has been such a great opportunity for me to continue to grow in my faith, bring people along with me, and surround myself with other like-minded student-athletes.”
Beyond her faith, Thomason’s accomplishments speak for themselves. As a freshman in 2022, she appeared in 11 matches, starting seven. Her sophomore season saw her become a key figure for the Huskies, leading the team in goals and shots. Now as she looks towards the rest of her career with the Huskies, she plans to continue making an impact in any way she can.
Tatum Thomason’s journey is defined by her faith, determination, and commitment. Her accomplishments on the soccer field are impressive, but it’s her relationship with Christ and the values instilled by her family that truly guide her. As she continues to excel in both athletics and academics, Thomason remains grounded, knowing her worth is rooted in more than soccer. With her faith as her foundation, she’s prepared to embrace whatever the future holds, confident in God’s plan for her life.
