One of the top recruits in her class, Nebraska commit and 5-star recruit Teraya Sigler says that she hopes to leave an impact both on and off the court during her time with the Huskers. As she prepares for her years in Lincoln, she says that faith is what has guided her throughout her journey.

Sigler opens up about the role of faith in her volleyball journey, acknowledging the pressure athletes face to be perfect every time they take the court. “As athletes, we tend to be so hard on ourselves to be perfect in our performance. Especially growing up playing high-level sports, you expect yourself to be perfect in every skill, all the time,” she shares.

The Nebraska commit candidly reveals her struggles with confidence, emphasizing how she has let one error or a single bad performance define her as a person. However, faith has been the anchor that allows her to move on from mistakes and grow.

“One thing that I can be 100% sure of all the time is God loves me whether I have my best game or not,” Sigler declares.

“This has been huge for my journey in sports because it allows me to move on from mistakes and allows me to grow. I was God’s daughter before I was ever an athlete let alone a volleyball player. Knowing His love for me is stronger than my athletic performance can’t change that. That is all that matters.”

Faith has been a constant in Sigler’s life, shaping her perspective from a young age. However, she acknowledges a time when she became overly concerned about what others thought of her, particularly her classmates and teammates. She says faith allowed her to recenter her attention on what is most important.

“I began to be selfish and only care about myself and my image when it doesn’t matter to God. It only matters how God sees me,” Sigler admits.

“Faith is such a beautiful thing and I was so caught up in the fame and followers that I didn’t stop and realize how many blessings I’ve been given in my life.”

As she navigates the challenges of the volleyball world, Sigler aspires to use her platform and gifts to make a meaningful impact. Her goal goes beyond the game itself; she desires to be a source of inspiration for others.

“I want to have the impact of being on fire for God,” she states emphatically. Despite her imperfections, Sigler aims to be a beacon of light, reminding others that God’s love is unwavering.

“I’m not perfect, I make mistakes, I get jealous, I get selfish and I do what every human does. But I want to be a light to others that God is the only way. When you feel lost in the world and tired of feeling alone. You have a father who loves and cares for you no matter what.”

Teraya Sigler’s ultimate aspiration is to showcase that life’s journey is unique for each individual and that’s perfectly okay.

“I want to show that your journey isn’t going to be like everyone else and that doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. God is moving mountains, and I want to show that life is a beautiful thing with Jesus!” Sigler expresses.

As she enters a world that is often driven by achievement and accolades, Teraya Sigler’s story stands out as a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and embracing one’s individual journey. As she continues her journey towards Nebraska, Sigler’s impact is sure to extend beyond the volleyball court to all those who witness her and the inspiration she shares.
