Stepping onto the court for Creighton, Josiah Dotzler aims for an impact that extends beyond the court. Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, the freshman guard says that wearing the Creighton uniform has been a dream come true. As he embarks on his journey with Creighton, Dotzler’s narrative has been centered on faith, and his primary goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.

Growing up in the church with a pastor for a father, Josiah’s faith has always been an important part of life. However, Josiah says that his journey took a pivotal turn in 7th grade.

Reflecting on this moment, he shares, “God got my attention and showed me that I can do anything with His help. From then on, I do my best every day to live the life God has called me to, and I want others to experience the same joy God gives me.”

As Josiah’s basketball career progresses, so does his commitment to sharing his faith.

“As God elevates me and puts me in front of more people, I want to be able to demonstrate and communicate my faith in many ways. I desire to touch as many lives as I can for Christ,” he expresses.

Beyond the basketball court, the Dotzler family is actively involved in making a positive impact on their community through Abide Omaha, a nonprofit organization. Josiah’s brother, Josh Dotzler, serves as the CEO and is a former Creighton basketball player himself.

Reflecting on his journey from the basketball court to community service, Josh shares, “My injury was the end of my personal dream and the beginning of God’s dream for my life.”

Abide Omaha focuses on empowering leaders and individuals in under-served communities, providing them with the resources necessary to reach their full potential. Josh emphasizes the fulfillment he finds in seeing people achieve their God-given potential and become Game-Changing leaders.

“I love seeing people reach their God-given potential and become the Game-Changing leaders they are designed to be. Much of our work at Abide revolves around empowering leaders and individuals who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the resources necessary to reach their full potential,” Josh states.

Reflecting on his role, he draws parallels between his experiences as a point guard in basketball and his work at Abide.

“As a true point guard in basketball, I was great at making sure we were in the best position to win. I love pointing people towards their potential and leveraging my influence to see them reach it and make a real change around them.”

Josiah and Josh Dotzler exemplify the power of faith, both on and off the basketball court. Their commitment to living purpose-driven lives and making a positive impact serves as an inspiration for others to leverage their influence for the greater good. They remind us that true fulfillment comes not just from personal success but from helping others reach their potential and, in doing so, changing the game for the better.
