London Haberfield has always loved the game of volleyball. Since she was young, London’s skills on the court were evident. As she helped guide La Costa Canyon High School to a 14th ranking in the country during her senior season, colleges throughout the country sought her for her skills on the court alongside her passion, love, and infectious energy away from it. As London readies for her college career at Cal Poly, she says her faith is what has gotten her to where she is.

Growing up in California, London has been surrounded by sports since she was young. While her family could always be seen competing with each other, they also were grounded by faith. London says her parents played a critical role in instilling those values in her.

“I’ve grown up in a Christian household my whole life. Both my parents were true examples of what it’s like to live in faith and to love like Jesus did. My family’s very involved at my church, but not until the start of high school did I build my own relationship with the Lord rather than under my parents faith.”

London says that her exposure to different experiences as she got older allowed her to put into practice what she had learned throughout her childhood.

“I was always taught about the stories in the bible when I was young but not until I had to come face to face with struggles in my life, that I found a deeper meaning of what it’s like to truly love like the Lord.”

After her senior year, where she was named Second Team All-CIF and led her high school to a 30-13 record, London began her collegiate career at Cal Poly. Following her sister Layla, now a junior on the team, London hopes to make her impact known with the Mustangs throughout her career there. On the court, London says her faith guides her every move.

“As a volleyball athlete it sharpens my faith by really giving me opportunities to lean into the Lord from any uncertainties, struggles or nerves. I lift all my worries to God and he truly takes them away from me which helps build my faith even more!”

With her first game just days away, London is beyond excited for all the opportunities that her college career will give her. As she prepares to take on whatever role she can for the Mustangs, she says that she wants her impact to expand beyond just the volleyball court. With every opportunity, London says she hopes to use her gifts for a purpose greater than herself.

“With my platform and gifts I just want to share the love of the Lord and what he’s done in my life.”

London says that her faith has been the greatest guide that she could ask for.

“Leaning into God for any of your needs can be one of the best decisions you can ever make because it sure was mine.”

While London is just beginning her college career, she carries with her a wisdom and maturity that is beyond her years. A light in the lives of all those around her, London provides a spark in whatever situation she is in. Hoping to show God’s love to everyone she sees, London says that as long as her career is used to point others to Him, it will be one well spent.
