The 2021-2022 Gatorade Indiana Volleyball Player of the Year, McCutcheon High School star Chloe Chicoine has been one of the most heavily recruited members of the 2023 class. After initially committing to Penn State, Chloe announced that she would be staying home and heading to Purdue for her collegiate career. As she gets ready for her time in West Lafayette and the impact she will have there on the volleyball court, she says it is her faith that has led her to where she is today.

A Lafayette native, Chloe says that her parents raised her with faith as an important part of life. As she has grown, she says her relationship with God has continued to develop.

“Faith has always been an important part of my life from being baptized after birth to praying everyday to talk with and thank the Lord. Sunday games and practices are not convenient, but my friends, school, and youth groups always help me connect with God to keep me on the right path. Although I have a long way to go on my faith journey, I am very thankful for the people I have around me who remind me to worship the Lord.”

Chloe says that she has also been blessed with a high school team and club team where faith is a focus, and experiences like those have had a huge impact on her and her journey.

“Faith greatly influences my life and I am very thankful for the amazing people and family God has gifted me with.”

On the court, Chicoine has quickly become one of the most talked about players in high school volleyball. Helping lead the Mavericks of McCutcheon to their first state championship this past year, Chloe credits her faith for guiding her every time she takes the court.

“My faith influences my volleyball career daily, always pushing me to make the most of every opportunity on the court while being grateful for the amazing people around me all thanks to Him.”

Chloe also says that the game of volleyball has brought her closer to God and allowed her to form relationships that she will forever cherish.

“Volleyball is constantly influencing my faith, teaching me life lessons, and constantly pushing my relationship with God. Through relationships with my teammates with many highs and lows, volleyball exhibits the many great gifts found in life through our sport.”

With her senior season coming up next and the chance to again lead McCutcheon to another historic campaign, Chloe says that she hopes her time around the game is one where she takes advantage of all her skills. Overcoming obstacles, she hopes to encourage young athletes to always chase their dreams no matter what.

“I may be undersized for my position, but I have been gifted with other assets from the Lord to give my game an edge to compete against others. I love the different styles played throughout the game and I hope each individual can find their own strengths to succeed with joy.”

Chloe says she hopes to use her time around the game to inspire others and point them to Him.

“I hope girls can watch me play and see how much joy and passion I have for the sport by never giving up on a play and giving my all for the people around me. The lifelong friendships, relationships, and opportunities gifted by the Lord are truly remarkable, and I hope every young player can develop his or her own style of play with the gifts God has given them.”

Now having a permanent home in West Lafayette, Chloe will be around a Purdue volleyball team that has consistently made it a priority to make a difference. Led by Coach Dave Shondell, the Boilermakers look to continue to build on their success and use homegrown talent like Chloe’s to reach the next level. As Chloe gears for her continued years around the game, she says that the game of volleyball is her way of reaching people.

“Our Savior has blessed us with an amazing sport for women all around the world to enjoy. I hope to show that we can make the most of this gift by loving each other, sacrificing for the greater good of the team, and making the most of every opportunity to step onto the court.”
