One of the top recruits in the 2023 class, Nebraska middle blocker Andi Jackson looks to make an impact in any way that she can for the Huskers. A star at Brighton High School in Colorado, Jackson is part of a Huskers recruiting class that ranks 1st overall in the nation. As she looks to help the Huskers to wins on the court, she also looks to use her platform for something bigger than herself. Defined by her faith, Andi says she hopes to show others that your sport does not define you.

Originally born in Alaska, Andi comes from a family of athletes. Her mom was a high jumper and her dad was a hockey player, so Andi was exposed to athletics from an early age. As she grew up, she fell in love with volleyball. As she has grown on the court, she also says that her faith has become more important in her life than ever before. Now in Lincoln, Andi says she has found a home in Nebraska and soaks up every moment she gets to spend there.

“Growing up my family and I attended church every Sunday, and youth groups occasionally. Since moving to Lincoln, I have been going to Mercy City Church and have loved every minute of it.”

Andi says that as she has grown in her faith, it has transferred to how she views volleyball. She no longer plays for herself, but instead says she has learned to glorify God throughout it all.

“My faith and relationship with God has never been stronger, and on May 28, 2023, I was baptized! Strengthening my relationship with Christ has helped me find joy in my sport learning to play for Him.”

As Andi now has completed her first week playing for one of the top teams in the country, she says she is playing the game of volleyball with more joy than ever before. Everytime she takes the court, she does so with a smile on her face knowing she is defined by God and His love.

“My faith plays the biggest role in my career. I know that my value comes from who I am and not what I do. When I play, I want to draw attention to God’s greatness and not my own – I find joy playing volleyball for Him and not my own gratification.”

Nebraska enters the season with a lot of excitement, as they are expected to again be one of the top teams in the country. As Andi gets ready to play in front of sold out crowds, she says that she hopes to use her platform to show others where their worth comes from.

“I hope to show others that your value comes from who you are, and not what you do. sport is not your identity. your relationship with Christ is greater than what you do or don’t have – the glory of God is eternal and His will for you is perfect.”

When Andi takes the court, she does so with a joy and enthusiasm that is unmatched. Relying on her faith, Andi says her confidence comes from knowing that all is in God’s hands, and that removes the pressure from her. Instead of feeling tied to her performance, she knows her value is so much greater which allows her to enjoy every minute of every day. As she prepares for her years at Nebraska, she looks to make an impact in any way she can both on and off the court.
