A native of Benin, a country in West Africa, Tounde says that his faith has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. In the midst of the highs and lows, he says turning to God has allowed him a place to go and find comfort.

“Faith has always been important in my life because I really believe in God and I know that no matter what people think about you, faith is the only way that you can get through any adversity. Faith really helped me to become who I am today.”

A star at St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria, Tounde has already cemented his name as one of the greatest to play at St. Joseph after just 2 years so far at the school. As he prepares for his next two years with the Knights, he says that he wants to use his gifts to inspire others.

“The biggest impact I hope to have with my platform and gifts is to show that no matter what people say, trust the process and keep going. There will always be obstacles but don’t ever give up. No matter what, trust in God and keep going.”

As Tounde begins to see his dreams come to fruition, he says he also hopes he can use his platform to encourage others to never give up on their own dreams.

“It doesn’t matter where you come from or who you are, don’t ever quit. Embrace all types of hate because wherever there is a good thing, there will always be a hater.

As Tounde continues to receive offers from some of the top programs in the country, he says he is putting his future in God’s hands as he prepares for what is next. While Tounde doesn’t know what the future holds, he says he just thanks God for each day and the chance to play the game of basketball. He hopes to always play for something greater than himself and use his platform to inspire others no matter what.
