Who God Says I Am

A 1st round pick in the 2015 MLB draft, Trent Grisham has quickly risen through the minor league ranks. A talented outfielder from Richland High School in Texas, Grisham has used his speed, strength, and athleticism to become a regular for the talented San Diego Padres lineup. As a versatile outfielder with impressive power, Grisham has quickly become a very reliable player for the Padres. But throughout his success on the field, Grisham has focused on using his platform to make a difference in the lives of many.
Born and raised in Texas, faith always was a part of the Grisham household. But recently Grisham has focused on continuing to grow his faith in the midst of his budding career. “I’ve always tried to make faith an important part of my life, but I really started to understand what a true relationship with the Lord means as I got older and even within the last few years.” As he has continued to grow in his walk, he has focused on using his platform in baseball to make an impact and has remained humble throughout his career with the help of his faith. As Trent Grisham has grown in popularity within the Padres organization and Major League Baseball, his humility remains strong. He emphasizes glorifying God through the highs and lows and not getting caught up in the results of the game. “Faith has influenced baseball by knowing that I am not defined by my career
and I am not who people say I am; I am who God says I am.” That confidence has given Grisham the ability to take the field every day knowing that in the midst of the highest points of the season and throughout the biggest struggles, he still is loved by God the same. As Grisham has continued to grow in his faith in recent years, he has been aided by his wife, Megan, as they have together focused on radiating positivity and bringing smiles to many faces. Married in early 2020, they have both focused on making faith a centerpoint of their relationship. Megan says, “Faith has influenced my life with Trent as we have continuously been able to reference any hardship through the lens of understanding and peace that God’s truth provides. It’s not always easy, but sharing that foundation means everything.” Megan also adds that she, too, has been recently making faith more of a priority, saying, “I’ve always strived to make faith important, but I feel like my true understanding of what a personal relationship with God has come within the last 5-6 years of my life.” That faith has continued to grow as she and Trent make faith a number one in their marriage.
Within their relationship, Megan and Trent have focused on showcasing God’s love in their marriage. Megan says, “My biggest takeaway is that marriage really is the sweetest reflection of God’s love on Earth – it’s unconditional, sacrificial, and faithful when you choose that person everyday. Just like you choose to commit to God every day as well and spend time with Him. Understanding this helps me in all aspects including all of the ups and downs with baseball- I’ve had to learn that I am not in control, but the peace I have with knowing Trent is by my side along with the foundation of my faith is everything in those hard, unpredictable moments.”
Trent and Megan both have become incredible inspirations for many throughout the world of sports. Regardless of Trent’s results on the field, Megan and Trent both carry a confidence in knowing that God has a greater plan and purpose for them. Their joy radiates and influences countless lives as they use their platform to point others towards Jesus. Whether Trent takes the field hitting home runs or if he struggles with strikeouts, he holds close to him a faith that reminds him of God’s love regardless of his performance on the field.
